Clinical Study on Fominoben-HC1 (Noleptan) in Patients suffering from Chro is Respiratory Diseases associated with Cough

Abstract
Fominoben-HCI exhibits an:antitussive activity through inhibition of the afferent reflexes originati g in the upper airways. It also shows a respiratory stimulating activity at doses at which the drug sho s an antitussive effect.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of fominoben-HC1 s.c. tabl:ts in chronic respiratory diseases.
A total of 20 patients with various respiratory diseases such as bronchial asthma, chronic bronchit s, pneumonia, pulmonary tuberculosis, lung cancer, and bronchiectasis were treated with fominoben-H I at doses of 160mg per os after meals every 8 hours. The treatment period varied from 8 to 28 days. ¢¥ combined treatment with a /3r-agonist, mucolytic or theophylline was indicated in severe cases. The bll i d collection for blood-gas investigations was performed from the bronchial artery before and2hours after administration of fominoben-HCI.
Clinical efficacy was observed in 75% of the patients. Side effects of fominoben-HC1 occured in 2 p - tients showing headache or drowsiness; these side effects, however, disappeared after discontinuation of the medication.
As to the blood gas values under fominoben-HC1 treatment compared to the pre-treatment value the summarized PaO2 showed a statistically significant increase; similary the average decrease of thalveolar-arterial oxygen difference (P[A-a] DO2) was found significant. The PaCO2 showed a falling tendene , the pH-value a rising tendency; both results, however, did not display a statistical significance.
The results of this study suggest that fominoben-HCI is an effective and safe antitussive drug wit desirable impacts on blood-gas in patients suffering from chronic respiratory diseases associated with cough.
